End of Term 1
Term 1 ended a bit chaotically and with me a bit confused and clueless for about 2 weeks as exams took place. It was definitely a challenge creating an exam encompassing the entire term and also getting used to how the whole process works. The grade 12 learners are writing full-length exams for all of their subjects so they write one exam in the morning and one in the afternoon. Grades 8-11 write an hour-long exam each morning and then proceed with their schedules for the rest of the day. In terms of exams, one teacher is in charge of making the exam for all the classes that are taking that subject even if he/she is not the class’s teacher. As a registered class teacher, I am responsible for invigilating whatever exam my class is taking that morning. Invigilating means I hand out the exam and watch them for an hour. It can be a challenge if they have questions and I did not write the exam. It is a little weird to be watching kids take an exam that I did not write. Throughout the day, during any periods that a teacher has a grade 12 class will usually mean he/she is in watching that class. There is a bit of confusion as to where one should be when and at what time the bell will ring. The Grade 8-11 learners also seem to be under the impression that once they have written an exam for a particular class, they are done for the term and it is nearly impossible to keep them focused on new topics. It is challenging because it results in a lot of wasted time. My learners did well overall. There is definitely room for improvement, as always.
